Who are the Island Time Saxophone Quartet?
Rod Mont – Soprano, Tenor Saxophones – Rod has played soprano, alto, tenor or baritone sax with various saxophone quartets and has also been actively involved playing saxes and clarinets in musical theatre. His most recent performances include Aspengrove School’s musical The Adaams Family and the Schmooze Productions musicals The Rocky Horror Show, The Little Mermaid, and Hair. Rod also has played clarinet in the Vancouver Island Opera Society’s productions of Bellini’s Norma and Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro. Rod currently plays soprano and tenor saxophones with the Island Time Saxophone Quartet.

Nicola Crowhurst – Alto, Tenor Saxophones - Nicola studied piano starting at age six and clarinet from grades 6 to 8 before changing to saxophone. She attended UBC and graduated with a B.Mus. in 1997. She studied with saxophonist Julia Nolan and participated in many ensembles including quartets, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble and new music ensemble. After graduation, she met her husband and moved to Victoria, where they started a family. In Victoria, she played with the 5th Field RCA Band and the Wine & Roses Ladies' Salon Orchestra. In 2009, her family moved to Nanaimo. She is very glad to be playing saxophone in the Nanaimo Concert Band and the Island Time Saxophone Quartet. Nicola is available for private saxophone lessons.

Jim Thompson – Baritone Saxophone – Jim taught in the Coquitlam School District leading concert and jazz bands, and concert and jazz choirs. After eleven years, Jim left the music classroom and focused on music outside of school. He formed and led the big band, FAT (Friends and Teachers) Jazz, and then led the ten-piece rock band, Double Overtime. Jim retired from teaching in 2013, and moved to Nanoose Bay. When ITSQ needed a baritone saxophone player, Jim jumped at the chance. He really enjoys working with such talented players!

Brent Pattison – Alto Saxophone – After graduating from UBC with a B. Mus., Brent taught band and choir programs at the elementary, middle and high school levels for fourteen years. As a classroom teacher and administrator, he found time to stay active with musical theatre, saxophone quartets, big bands, and various rock bands around metro Vancouver. Brent currently plays alto saxophone with ITSQ, and lead alto in the newly-formed Oceanside Big Band. He is available for private lessons, Brent lives with his wife in Parksville and certainly enjoys “island time”!
